By Angie Thomas
I hate that I read this book later than I should have.
“That's the problem. We let people say stuff, and they say it so much that it becomes okay to them and normal for us. What's the point of having a voice if you're gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn't be?”
This book brought me to tears, made me laugh at situations I knew too well and was over all just so relateble. I really wished this book was around when I was much younger. I really admire Angie Thomas writing style and her taking a chance with a such a sensitive topic.
Theses kind of books really have such a powerful impact on me. It took me to the world of Starr Carter who witness one of her best friends being killed a police officer. The aftermath of the killing really brings light to the other side of the story, the victim. Starr must made decisions that I'm not sure I could. I would recommend this book to anyone trying who needs something raw and filled with meaning.
